Tourism Minister: 'New route to Birmingham now gives Gibraltar access to whole of England'

Tourism Minister Christian Santos has told GBC the new route to Birmingham now ensures easy access to any area in England.   

It complements existing EasyJet flights from Bristol, Gatwick and Manchester, with a total of 13 weekly routes.

The service operates twice-weekly on Thursdays and Sundays 

New routes are always welcome on the Rock and Birmingham is undoubtedly one of the best connected cities in England.

So there was something of a fanfare as the inaugural flight landed on Sunday bringing new opportunities and the Tourism Minister with it.

Christian Santos was coming home but for many this could have been their first visit to the Rock.  And what a welcome it was - Arrive from Birmingham into 28 degrees of sunshine, the re-enactment society is providing a guard of honour, the Sea Scouts Band the background music and the Mayor Carmen Gomez greeted you personally.  The phones were out, photos were taken and there was almost a festive atmosphere with much clapping between musical pieces.  The tourists loved it- what a way to be met off a plane.
